This original carving of the American Bittern stands 11 1/2 inches high, which is considered a miniature, and is carved from local basswood from our Northern Ontario property. One of the first welcome sounds of spring, its' familiar 'water pump' sound breaks the quiet spring air from the wetland adjoining our meadow. It placed second in the novice division at the Ward Foundation Carving Show in Ocean City, Maryland in 2004, and 1st in the intermediate division at the Canadian National Wildfowl Carving show in Kitchener, Ontario in 2005.
