If wandering backcountry roads and exploring
ghost towns has appeal, you might consider the small housekeeping and MAP (two
meals a day) resort of Woodland Echoes on Ahmic
Lake on the historic Magnetawan River.
Each waterfront cottage in this resort is complete with fireplace, microwave and
propane barbecue and there is also an outdoor hot tub, a beachfront sauna, a tennis
court and mini-golf course.
With mountain bikes and maps available free of charge there are trails to wander
and roads to drive, with long abandoned weathered bams, log cabins and schoolhouses
along the way.
In September, two people can stay for a week at the resort at a cost of $433 per
person. There are also honeymoon and getaway two night
packages which include accommodation, a welcoming bottle of champagne, breakfast
and dinner each day, a boat and motor for a day, all towels, linens and terry robes
and optional maid service, at a cost of $235 per couple, per night. Woodland Echoes
is about 72 km northwest of Huntsville. Phone (705) 387-3866, fax (705) 387-0216.
